The Precision of Foujita, the Weight of Kuniyoshi

-
I wandered to Kobe just to stand before the works of Tsuguharu Foujita.
His brush spoke with flawless precision—oil paint laid down through the quiet discipline of Japanese Painting.
How different from Yasuo Kuniyoshi, who built his canvases with heavy blocks of color, only finding a sudden clarity in his later years.
Foujita’s art, by contrast, thins itself to the very edge of breath—an exquisite lightness.
I left with my heart completely full.
